It's that time of year, when your coworkers have dishes of Halloween chocolates on their desks, when someone you know may be bringing home bags and bags of candy to (in theory) hand out to other people. (I know the attrition rate at my house is pretty horrendous.)

Then, once that hurdle is out of sight, it'll be time for Thanksgiving, and your Aunt Gracie will be sure to fill your plate to overflowing whether you want her to or not.

And as if that's not enough, by the time you've finished digesting November, the December holidays will be right there to stuff you full of family treats all over again.

Of course, you have more than one group of friends (and maybe more than one grouping of family) during these festive times, so you might be doubling or tripling your merriment - and probably your calorie intake to boot.

What are your plans to take on the holiday season without losing your motivation or gaining a billion pounds?

1.tell everyone you're allergic to chocolate (I actually AM, haha)

2. Tell Aunt Gracie that you're a big kid now and fill your own plate [with reasonable portions and dont stuff yourself].  Take home leftovers.

3. Christmas is expensive. Same money and lbs by limiting the intake of sweets, alcohol and portions.  Refer to number ONE for the sweets, and number TWO for portion control, and .. alcohol is bad for you?  Stay sober and make fun of everyone else that will be throwing up in the parking lot afterwards..... hah!

A simple and polite "No thank you", I'm full already", or "none for me, thanks" have been working for me lately. If that doesn't work then a little white lie like: "Orders from the doctor" or even "That food will kill me if I eat it" (not far from the truth). I find my eating habits get a lot more respect when I decline food in the face of pressure from family or friends.

I down 23 lbs and counting and this website helps a lot.

My boyfriend's family always has an annual family Christmas party, with TONS of food. Last year, I didn't care what I ate because I was not trying to live a "healthy" live..(awful I know!). This year however, is much different. With that being said, I've decided to make my own healthy dish to bring. That way I'll know what I'm eating is healthy and not loaded with butter, sugar etc. I'm also going to put in a word to the event holder that fruit and veggie trays should be present (which I know won't be a problem since this year my boyfriend's mom is putting on the event   ).

In regards to every other holiday coming up...it's going to be tough but I figured if I help make the food (turkey, sides etc.) I'll know what's in it, and maybe help tweak the recipes to make them more healthy.

Best of luck to everyone this season!
