So, I've been doing this calorie counting thing for about a week now and I have to say I am impressed with how well I've been doing. I get cravings for sweet or greasy stuff, but then I just picture how I look now and how I will look 40 pounds healthier and then I feel much better and no longer want that imaginary bowl of ice cream. But I was talking with a (skinny) friend about this and she suggested that I allow myself to indulge in my food fantasies one day every week, if I want to.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had any success with this? I know it wouldn't be smart to go all out with food and alcohol but will 3 slices of pizza or 4 beers set me far off track?
Thanks
-Carol

Carol,
A personal trainer friend of mine does not recommend a binge day, but he does recommend one cheat meal per week. At this meal you can have anything you want. The catch is, you have to earn that cheat meal by sticking with an exercise program and staying within your pre-defined daily nutrition plan... aka diet.
Pizza and beer... here I come!

Thank you for your advice! Your answer seems very logical to me. I had a beer last night and still stayed within my daily calorie limit. You know, this whole diet thing isn't as hard as I thought it would be...knock on wood.

Carol:
I completely agree with Garrett. My ex-personal trainer told me the exact same thing: one reward meal for sticking with the plan the rest of the time.

I'm voting "no" on the cheat day, it is like giving an alcoholic one day in which he/she can have a drink. I always related my eating habits to that of an addiction and, not to trivialize serious addictions, if I gave in one day I might give in the next. I recommend a 100 calorie snack pack as a daily reward for having a great and healthy day. Trust me, you’ll feel better afterwards.
