My goal isn't to lose weight as much as it is to get into better shape and tone up, my problem I HATE EXERCISE- can anyone suggest easy workouts to get a routine started?

unfortunately, most things worth doing are usually not easy. Getting fat is easy, getting weak is easy... getting toned is hard, getting fit is hard. But it feels that much better when you do, the difficulty adds value. Set a schedule, keep it, and you will get used to it, then you will start to like it, then you will succeed. But IMO looking for something easy is not the correct first step.

Start off walking. Depending on where you live and what your climate is like, either outdoors or at a place like a mall. Start off slow, but keep setting new goals. If you like music, invest in an mp3 player, or learn a new language, or listen to a book. Just be careful if you are near traffic that you can hear enough of what is going on. If you are true to yourself, you will reach a point where walking is no longer enough and then you can decide what else to do. Or add a backpack with weight in it to up the work that you do when you walk. Unfortunately, if you want an all over toned look you will have to eventually branch out to other exercize. Just keep moving.

i used to despise exercise too, and then i realized that it was the only way i could get into any kind of decent shape.  i was sick of being winded at the top of my steps, or having my legs hurt after carrying my baby cousin out to get the mail and back.

so, i basically started doing just that:  the simple daily things that bothered me.  i started forcing myself to climb the steps more quickly and more times per day, eventually taking the steps instead of the elevator.  i would jog out to the mailbox (regardless of my neighbors stupid looks) or do leg lunges when vaccuming my living room.  it started off simple, and then i started to like moving around.  i began going for walks, and finding workout videos online.  i found that i really like yoga (because it's a great workout and not to strenuous) plus, i can do it alone in front of my computer and not worry about looking like a goofball.  i have fallen in love with work out videos.  eventually i'll get myself to the gym again, but i think babysteps work better for some than others!

I find myself getting bored with repetitive activity, esp with cardio. I hate treadmills! I play soccer with friends from work (I haven't played since gym class) and they've been really fun and supportive. So long as I'm learning something (soccer, tennis, latin dance, yoga) I can do my cardio workout. Pick something fun and give 100%. For example, I can't really kick the ball but if I shadow a better player from the opposite team, I follow their every move on the pitch, working on my defensive skills and getting a great cardio workout. You should try it!

Though I've just joined this particular site, I have been working out regularly for several years.  I think the key thing is to find something that you enjoy doing... if you're going to hate every moment of it, then you're going to end up giving up.  For me, I like going to the gym (mostly because I'm a spaz and like to try to "beat" my own times), but there have been times in my life when I just couldn't do it.  Playing basketball with a group of friends, volleyball, going swimming in the lake/river/ocean/etc., playing fetch with your dog, etc.  There are so many possibilities.  The biggest thing is getting started.  Perhaps if there aren't activities that you have tried an enjoyed you could use this as an opportunity to try some different possibilities and maybe even make some new friends?  Sounds like a fun challenge to me! :o)  Good luck to you in your search to figure out your own activity likes and dislikes.

I had been active all through school with soccer, track etc.  Then, I got married and had kids.  Needless to say by november 99 and the birth of my third child, I was WAY out of shape.  I decided to slowly get back into it, to start out with something ridiculously easy so it would be easier to get into a routine and work on increasing time.  I started out walking 10 minutes a day.  I know it's not much at all, but I'll tell you it worked.  Slowly from that point I just increased the time, added in slow jogging. . . by May of 2003 I had run a full marathon, several half and shorter distance races, and by 2005 I had been in a biathlon and a couple road tours on bike - my favorite was a 50 mile bike tour in the Cuyahoga Valley.

Fast forward to today - I haven't been in any events for several months, but have been fairly consistent with workouts.  I belong to a gym and also do outdoor cycling.  At the gym I use the treadmill, ellyptical, stepper, indoor bike, and the weight room.  I weight train 3-4 days a week and have 3-4 days of cardio as well.  I try to also walk our dogs everyday if at all possible.

Long story short - start out with something really really simple, a handful of minutes a day, and just gradually increase from there.  That way you don't overstress your body, you don't tire yourself out, and you shouldn't end up hating what you are doing by starting out slow.

I've always hated excercise but I have recently joined a gym where the workout consists of a 30 minute circuit of 10 hydraulic machines and 10 platforms. The workout is fun as it doesnt get boring and it works! I have already lost 2 kg in 3 weeks (workout 3 times a week).

Look up a hydraulic circuit gym in your area and give it a try
