I have a problem also eating at work. I have changed jobs almost a year ago, and it is much quieter than my other job. I am in my head all day at my desk working at my own pace which is nice, but often times I need to take a break. So, I take a break in the kitchen at the free cookie jar about four times a day.

I am trying the small meals thing starting today, and I am going to put my mini meals in the kitchen, so I can walk away from my desk to do it. Any other ideas?

Typically, I do good about two weeks, and then I crumble and go in the opposite direction.

I am tracking everything this time thanks to the website, so I hoping that will help as well.

Great reply and thanks for the scientific spin. I think it is the aspect many overlook. For me, I do have those sugar cravings at time and I know it is just a part of who I have always been. I have created a mental list of acceptable "indulgences" - a life saver, a 100 calorie pack, a mini chocolate bar. The point is to limit yourself reasonably. If you deny yourself the things you crave completely, you will fall back so just establish some ground rules.

I also have lots of healthy snacks in the house. I have bananas always around. A bowl of washed grapes ready to grab at any time. The newest one I have added is the white cheddar rice cakes. One rice cake is a delicious 45 calories. In addition, I buy the little servings of hummus that I can grab and eat with some veggies or wheat thins.

I typically eat my three meals and two snacks a day. It is the same eating pattern my toddler is on and the pattern she needs to stay in a good disposition. It just proves that it is the way we are supposed to eat and as we get older we divert due to pressures, getting too busy, etc.

By the way, my toddler has understood the words indulgence, sugary, healthy, and protein and uses them accurately. I want her to understand now what foods are the best fuel for her body so she can make the best choices later in life.

Hang in there. Every habit can be changed. Just find the motivation that works for you.

All day cravings.  I love sweets and I do understand your feelings.  I have just come to find that I can love dark chocolate.  Although, not all dark I find appealing but Lindt with orange peeling is awesome and there is coconut and sea salt.  I'm beginning to get into vanilla yogurt also (regular or organic) I can just eat that out of the container ummm.  Living in MS and being a heat injury I have to intake plenty of water so i do not add anything.  I'm careful not to have it too cold.  Everything that has been said has been good advice so far but understand you have to also find what does work for your body.

I usually don't post as I am not educated on health and fitness but about 1 1/2 years ago I decided that being over weight was not fun anymore. So I decided to do something about it and started walking. I also started on this site and within the first 4 months had lost 30 pounds. Then after a couple of more months another 10 came off. Then life came back and hit me and I slowly stopped and put a few pounds back on. But then I decided to get started again....after only a few months I had lost another 10 pounds but then my hubby retired from the military and we moved, again. So that put a huge dent in my eating and working out. I have again, just recently, decided that I really want to get the last 25 pounds off and have started at it again.

Now about the food, I never deni myself anything......I allow myself to eat whatever I want BUT it has to fit into my calories for the day. If I allow myself to have a huge treat then I eat a lighter dinner. I also find other ways to get what I am craving even if it is not as big a treat as what I used to get. Instead of the largest drink at Star Bucks I now order the smallest with the fat free milk and fat free cream and don't get the whipping cream. I love the wal mart angle food cakes that are made with splenda. And when I want a piece of candy I eat a couple of mini tootsie rolls......love my chocolate. When I want something salty I eat the Lays fat free chips or the pringles fat free chips but I count them out into a small bowl and then walk out of the kitchen. I even eat ice cream. And I don't freak out if I have more calories in one day then I allow myself. I feel that you don't have to "diet" to lose weight......I call it a "life change to get healthy" and then it does not sound so bad.

I could not do this without the support of my hubby and kids. They are slowly learning that when they go to the store and want to get me a treat to get something healthy and not the donuts or candy bars they used to bring me......lol.

Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to say that if I can do this (I love food and am VERY weak at saying no) then anyone can. Oh yeah, I also have a picture of me at my highest weight taped up at my desk and when I don't think I can do it anymore I look at my picture and refuse to get back there.

Make sure you eat at least three meals per day (sometimes snacking is about really feeling hungry) and try to drink at least 8 drinks per day because sometimes it's all about feeling thirsty. If you are still desperate for something sweet, and believe me, as a cake addict I've been there, then save enough calories for a small sweet snack in the evening and limit yourself to one.
