When I am at the gym on a treadmill or anything else that clocks my time/distance, I cover it up with a towel. I learned that if I am watching it I keep thinking about when I am going to be done. If I can't see the time, I have at times walked/jogged for 10 minutes more than my usual time. I also tend to think about things that I know will keep my mind occupied. For instance, one of my hobbies is making jewelry. I can think about new designs for hours and this is a time that I know I won't be interrupted.
So don't watch the clock and think about other things. It works wonders for me, maybe it will work for you too!

For me it's all about routine, routine and more routine.
I went for about 6 months on and off again. I finally told myself one day that this was it I was going to get back into a routine. It took me a month but I am finally back at the gym 5 days a week. During the work week I go at the same time every time night. I don't even think about any more and I try to work out on the same days this way I don't get swept up into any TV programs that might change my mind about going to the gym.
This site has also really helped me get back into fitness, it bugs me if I see something unhealthy in my nutrition log or if I don't see any activity listed.
For my diet I try to eat healthy during the 5 day work week and then eat what I want on the weekends. This has helped me keep on track and not put on any weight. Saturday I tend to go all out but Sunday I try to be more reasonable.
Sorry didn't mean to ramble on it happens when I start going on about fitness.
Good luck

| What I picked up from the Army was an no quit, Can Do attitude. I know that I am stronger in the mind than I am in the body, so when my body says, "Please stop, I can't!". My mind says, "Too bad. I'm in charge and I say keep going." And with that, the electrical impulses keep the legs 'a movin'. Also, goals are what keep me working on it... personal bests, races, etc... I decided today I'm running a full marathon next March, so what that does for me is lock up a full 18 weeks of training starting at the end of November... good luck!

I agree with Ziggy. You have to dominate your body. When your body wants to quit, tell your body what you want. Just keep thinking...."if it were easy, everyone would be in shape", "c'mon, just 5 more mins", "don't you quit on me", "keep pushing" etc. I cuss at myself like one of my old drill instructors when I hit that failure point. When I do cardio, a lot of times i don't use my iPod, I just run old cadences from the military through my head. I heard somewhere that if you say "ill try" you are immediately saving quitting as an option. You gotta make yourself GO. The biggest motivator that i have is the mirror, which i'm sure everyone here can agree. But what matters most is how you see yourself, not your reflection. Keep looking for that person in the mirror that you know is there somewhere.

Skipping a workout is not failing- quitting altogether is.
The days that you want to work out the least are the ones that you need to the most.

Push yourself but accept limitations.
I like this because life has unexpected events thay may disrupt your normal routine. Don't let it get you down. Accept it and move on. I also have more success when I have goals. I am a runner so I keep myself scheduled in races. Next one is the half-marathon in 3 weeks. My upcoming list also includes a 5K in October, 8.6 miles in November (maybe a harbor to harbor run too), a 10K in December, and another half-marathon in February. Therefore, I can't slack too much.
I love this site and keep track of my progress on a calendar on my freezer door. I started that visual when I was dealing with depression after my father's death and couldn't get myself focused on my workouts. The trick worked.
All I need now is the inspiration to always climb out of bed at 4:00 am to do my workouts. Some days it is just so hard.
