I went on vacation with the family and after we got home and was looking at the pictures I knew it was time to do something. In the spring I found out I had some heart blockage, which my cardiologist said he thought it could be controlled with excercise and lipitor no surgery required at this time. But I did nothing just kept my same lifestyle and kept drinking the beer. That is until I saw the pictures. My son is getting married 8/30 I was not going to look in the wedding pictures as I did on the beach. So started 7/6/08 walking 2 miles per day. Now I am up to around 20 miles per week walking 6-7 days per week. And really watching my diet more fruits and veggies and trying to eat fat free. I have also started weight training 3 days per week. I am down from 218 to 209 today. Which has been a real dissapointment with the way I have been eating and excersing so much. But can tell my clothes are fitting better. My goal is to get to around 160 since I am only 5'7" have no idea when I went from 5'9" to 5'7" but I did. My wife says I am obessed since I have bought all the toys she calls them. Polar rs200sd watch heart monitor. Even went to fleet feet and they videoed me walking and fitted me for the right type of walking shoe. And joined here which is one of the best things I have done for sure. But I do feel alot better, have more confidence, and really enjoying the excersing. So going to try my best to keep it up and get to 160. Have a good day everyone, and keep it up. If I can help you in anyway just email me, I know it is easier if you have someone to be accountable too. And use the forums it helps everyone with little tid bits of advice.

RE: Fitness Goals

Wow! Over the last couple of months I returned to couch potato status and stopped working out. Today I planned to get back in action and came here for a bit of motivation. Seeing everyone's goals has really got me motivated. I can't wait to get to the gym and meet my goals.

RE: Fitness Goals

Halloo all! Let's see...my fitness goals. I'm looking to join the US Army. Trouble is, I'm about 30lbs over the Army Target Weight. To get on target, I can either inch past the Tape/ARMS test or actually do something about this excess baggage. :D So, here I am. I figured that if I've got a way to keep tabs on what I'm eating and how often I exercise, I'll be more motivated overall.

RE: Fitness Goals

gday all, new here and trying to keep tabs on my progress for my weight training reguime. I have been doing the size surge programme and seems very effective. I train during the week then have the 3-4 days off which is spent bushwalking or bowhunting which is my cardio. while hunting we often walk(sometimes running from angry critters:w00t::D) 20km a day which I think is a good cardio workout:D I was 122kg(268lb) and after 5 weeks have dropped down to 112kg(246lb) which I hope to maintain just by adding more muscle while burning fat. any other aussies here? I live in kakadu national park in the the northern territory so get to enjoy large open spaces while training:D

BEAR

RE: Fitness Goals

You know, I've never sat down to figure out what my fitness goals are. I think it's about time that I do that!:)

Fitness goals:

To keep my abdomen "flab" to a minimum (I've heard visceral fat is the worst kind to have!)

I also would like to lessen the risk of heart disease and diabetes (these are the two biggest problems in my family)

I would also like to be able to run a 5k in the next year

I also want to get my total fat % down to a healthy range. I had a my body composition read via a BIA scale and I'm definitely not in the "healthy fat" range.

How I am reaching my goals:

I'm weight training 3-4 times a week, working 1-2 different muscle groups a day with additional abdominal work. I'm also trying to do cardio activities 5-6 days a week (running, eliptical, light swimming, biking etc.). I'd like to get involved in either Yoga or Pilates but I missed the sign up date at my employer's wellness center! :(

So far I've lost 3-4 lbs and I don't have too much farther to go. The problem I have is keeping my weight at a stable level. I get to my goal weight and think that I can eat whatever I want! Not good! Hopefully I can learn that these changes are LIFE changes, not temporary ones!

RE: Fitness Goals

oy that freshman 15 post totally jogs my memory to my college years unfortunately i racked up about 30lbs extra in college and another 8lbs in the last 3-4 months due to moving (halfway across the country) and all the joys that brings.

so short-term goals:

be able to play mid-field in a soccer game and not be winded/dying before the first half

have the motivation to get up early to go running

feel comfortable in my clothes again

and long-term goals:

look good in a swimsuit

look forward to getting up to go workout

being able to run a 5k (maybe even a 10k)

it's really awesome to know that there are other people out there struggling and yet still trying to meet their own personal goals. i love that everyone is in a different state of health yet we're all basically trying to achieve the same goals of being healthy and in shape.

RE: Fitness Goals

i just finished my first year in college, and the "Freshman 15" slowly tuned into the "Freshman 30" for me. I played soccer all my life and swam so I've always been really active but now that I don't have a coach in my face telling me what to do, pushing myself to my limits isn't happening. My goals are to drop 25lbs and keep my fitness.
My biggest issue is food quantity. I know I can't eat as much I used when I was in season but I'm not adjust as quickly as I hoped.
So yeah, those are my two main goals.
Good luck to everyone else!
futball_luv

RE: Fitness Goals

I hit 29 and found myself in a depressive, idle state of non-being. I once an active young girl with dreams of athletic stardom. I've always been a hard worker and found when I was keeping busy my body kept fit. Unfortunately for the last 8 months I found myself on the "unenjoyment" list and felt the depression and isolation was consuming my self-motivating qualities.

My athletic, dancer body was literally falling to the floor. I am not sure if it was the fact that I hated to look in the mirror or the fact that I hated the person that couldn't look in the mirror that finally threw the rock that shattered it. Enough was enough and I set in my head a simple goal last week... " Walk! Put one foot in front of the other, Sara. How hard is that? Get dressed and get stepping! And don't stop for a day. Don't you dare stop."

So everyday this week, I've gotten up, gotten dressed and put one foot forward then the next all the way to my front door. I turned the knob and stepped out of the isolation into a world so alive. A world where I could draw from and feel alive once again. I'll walk again tomorrow once again.

RE: Fitness Goals

Just to let you know tris are awsome, once you do one you will be hooked. I have short-term and long-term ones:

Short-term: I have to train for a 5K I signed up for in August. I have not been running for months, and I have never liked it very much, so this will be an accomplishment! I just want to run the entire 5K, however slowly. I have been traveling extensively this year, so I have really stopped exercising regularly. I want to run 3-4 days/week, get back into Bikram yoga 3 days/week, and weight-train 2 days/week. Once I settle down in a new city in 2 months, I would also like to get back into Jujitsu or try another martial art.

Long-term: I want to lose about 50# and be in the best shape of my life! I want to feel good, for the first time that I can remember, in shorts/skirts and bikinis.

It's more about confidence, health and achieving a goal for me. Not necessarily about the weight or a specific clothing size, etc. By the way, I am a vegetarian/vegan. I also need to clean up my eating habits a bit!

Good luck to everyone!

Mera

RE: Fitness Goals

im into MMA and thai boxing and its exhuasting i want to have enough gas left in the tank so i can still defend against submissions and strikes at the end of a grueling 2 hour training session not just at the beginning!! I still have a long way to go, and since i've kicked up the cycling, i've been more lax about what i eat, because i'm not gaining any weight (but i'm certainly not losing it either). We have a number of push ups and sit ups we have to do as well as a mile and a half run. I was complacent the last few months and let myself go. Now I have about 3 months to get back on track, so short term goals are to get back to doing the mile and a half in under 13 minutes. I also want to max out my situps...something I've never been able to do. Long term goals would be to get under 200 pounds and possibly train for and run another half marathon. I did it 3 years ago, and even though I was 215 pounds and the last one to cross the line at 3 hours and 30 minutes, it was an amazing accomplishment.

I see you are thinking of doing a 5K, I say go for it!! That was part of my training when I did the half marathon, and it doesn't matter what kind of shape you're in, the people that are out there doing it already are very accepting and helpful. I was afraid at first to go out because of my weight, but once I was out there and saw how friendly everyone was, it was a great boost for my motivation. It's never too late to get in shape!

Best of luck!!

Fitness Goals

Hi all,

Just curious as what fitness goals everyone is hoping to achieve. If there are some of us with similar goals, may be we can serve as support for each other.

What are your fitness goals?

To get fit and feel more active.

Learn a variety of ways to exercise and feel comfortable doing them by myself.

Feel confident wearing a swimsuit.

Thinking about training for a 5K.

Keep working out!

How you are working to reach them?

I've joined the local gym and have begun working with a personal trainer. I train with the trainer 1-2 times per week. Three sessions of toning per week. Mostly weight lifting, bosu, and fitness ball activities. I try to fit in running at least two times per week for about 30 minutes. (Need to pick up the cardio pace.) I take a Yoga class on Wednesdays.

How you will know you are there?

Wake up in the morning and want to workout.

Know the names of the exercises I'm doing. :ermm:

Put on a swimsuit and feel ok about how I look. (This might be more of a mental workout than a physical one.)

Keep up with my four year old.

Susan
