Weighed in at 11st 10lbs at my last medical but have already lost some weight by increasing my exercise and doing without cake (sob!) Trying to do 2-3 hours exercise per day but not too intense. Luckily (though I don't feel that way) I am unemployed at present so plenty of time to walk and dance (my too favourite forms of exercise). The REAL problem I am having is in nutrition. Never realised that my diet was so off kilter until I started recording. I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and struggling mightily to try and get my protein intake much above 12-13%. Carbs through the roof usually and as soon as I start trying to get proteins higher my fat score zooms up. Anyone else out there with same problems?

Hope to go swimming when hubby is not working so hard. (He's the one with the car, and I would like him to be there on the first couple at least. Have not tried climbing down the steps of a swimming pool sinnce the hip operation.)

Anyhoo, great to meet you all.

Ecolinda

hello

hi im 27 i have 4 kids and im trying to loose weight and tone back up nice site

water and alcohol log

I read the instruction for posting alcohol and water consumption on the nutrition tab but when I go there, I do not see the water and alcohol icons. I graduated high school at about 185, and started my first year of college. By the time I flunked out of my freshman year, I was around 200. I got pregnant the next year, and ended up around 235. Over the next several years, I worked crappy jobs, took a class or two on occassion, and gained another 20 pounds. Feeling worthless was my eating trigger, and I felt worthless a lot...

Last January was my turning point. I was working a dead-end job with a literally psychotic boss, and weighed in at 255 lbs and a tight size 22 pant. I realized that I wasn't ever going to be happy with my life like that, so I called my husband, walked out the door of the toxic job, and went directly over to the community college to sign up as a full-time student. I knew I needed drastic change if I was going to be happy, no matter how difficult it seemed initially. It was the scariest decision I've ever made (especially financially!!)

Now, going on my fifth semester, I am an honor's student with a 3.8 GPA. I have taken a full-load of classes every semester, and received my first degree in Integrated Studies this past week. I get my AAS in Business Administration in 14 more weeks, and then will finish my Bachelor's degree at a major university within the next 2 years and start prepping for my CPA exam! Finally receiving a degree this semester has given me confidence that I never knew before. A goal that I once felt was completely out-of-reach is here... and with honors. I feel like I can do what I set my mind to - I am not worthless, and I refuse to settle for feeling that way anymore.

I found this website after searching for something that would help me keep track of my nutrition and exercise, and allow me to do it in a safe and healthy way. No fad diets for me anymore! I am learning the importance of proteins and carbohydrates and fat... I honestly didn't realize before last week that those diets that say to cut the carbs or fats out completely are not good for you! It is helping to write down everything I eat and all the exercise I do... it's keeping me motivated to see all the hard work written down!

So, here I am. I hope to make some new friends here and help each other through the hard times while celebrating every single victory. I'm seriously getting a little teary-eyed writing this... it's hard to be this honest with myself after so many years! Sorry this is so long!

~Dee

Introduction

Hi everyone! I'm celebrating my 50th birthday in a few months and my gift to myself was to create a better life for myself. I have 3 great kids and 6 wonderful grandkids ranging from 11 to 1 1/2 years old. I'm a business owner and I love gardening (both vegetable and flowers). I enjoy the outdoors with my family and my 3 dogs. My goal is to lose weight, get back into shape and to quit smoking. My husband bought me an elliptical in february and i've used it 3 times. :( i want so desperately to be healthy again. i have so much weight to lose and while my husband supports me, i dont think he truly understands what is going on in my head. i feel very self conscious about everything, including sometimes how he looks at me. i just wish i had a fix all, but i dont. i thought this web page would help, and until i noticed there were forums i felt completely lost. i tracked all my food today, but my exercise is lacking. being a stay at home mom with 3 babies under 2 its hard for me to find time for exercise. i move all day long, but apparently not enough. the scale keeps going up. i'm so discouraged. i NEED this to work this time and i am trying to stay positive. anyone have any tips on beginning exercises or perhaps something that worked for you. i hardly even have time to take a walk, i can't go with all 3 kids, and by the time my husband gets home i'm exhausted. please help me!!! i need some encouragement. :(

Hi! and question on model program for hand weights

Hi!

I've joined this site to log progress towards goal of becoming strong and healthy. I live in what could be an outdoors workout wonderland (east coast Northland NZ) and walk the dogs at the beach everyday but it doesn't seem like i'm leveraging this opportunity to be active enough. Got a bit of a shock doing BMI to find that at 161 cm and 80kg I am in obese range as I don't feel obese, but at almost 42 i feel it is time to hear and act on that information.

It's just gone midwinter and am enjoying recently purchased home eliptical trainer. doing 30mins a day at a medium level resistance.

Also have two hand weights I can use for strength training, 2kg - 5 pounds. Truth be told they were used to weight down some vege garden cloth for a couple of years and had to be de-moulded!! I was wondering if there are model or example programs in the site for a simple beginners hand weight program. Have ordered the DK Strength training book from the library, so hoping this will be of help also.

cheers!

New member, love the site

As a 30 year old, husband, Dad to 5 kids, sole bread winner, paid volunteer EMT and a member of the local Search and Rescue team, I consider myself a pretty busy guy. I have had to force myself to make time to work out. Mostly it comes from sacrificing sleep as my family has this idea that I am to be part of their lives.

A little background: In 4th grade I weighed in at 200 lbs. I graduated in 1999 at 237 lbs and 5' 10", I was still quite fat. I immediately joined the Army Infantry and dropped down to a very scrawny 192 lbs by the end of Basic training. I continued to maintain under 215 until 2001 when I got married. My wife was not what you would call a good cook. If it did not come out of a box she basically could not make it. For the next 5 years I barely maintained below the required body fat limits at about 235 to keep from being put on profile. When I left the service in 2006 with no more mandatory PT I went up to about 245.

I had convinced myself for the longest time that I was ok with this as it basically allowed me to eat what I wanted. It wasn't until the beginning of this January, after the holidays that I got on the scale and saw that I was for the first time in my life over 260. I am a big fan of the biggest loser, my wife and I watch it all the time (ironically). Seeing that 6 behind the 2 set something off in me, I said out loud "Oh hell no!" That night I started researching nutrition and working out.

A few days later I was talking with a guy from work and he told me about the Gold's Gym 12 week fitness challenge. I decided to do it, if for nothing else than to hold my feet to the fire so to speak. I paid the $50 as I am not a member and have been working out ever since. In the last 3 weeks I have dropped from 167 to 136 as of this morning. I feel great and can not wait to see how this ends up at the end of the 12 weeks.

My nutrition is spot on and I am working out on average of 8 hours a week. This site will now take my training to the next level as I can more accurately track what I eat and what I am burning on a daily basis.

If you have actually taken the time to read this more power to you. Sometimes it just feels good to be able to rant to strangers to get things off your chest. I just want to let everyone know, whatever your goal I am rooting for you and wish you all the luck in the world in realizing your goals.

Hello ...this site looks good :-)

I'm happy to find a clear, well designed and usable training log... there are so many clunky, and excessively complicated sites around but this site looks great. I used to run in high school, but when I started going to college and working excercise went out the door and a fast food diet came in. I'm a super picky eater, I don't like vegetables and have never met any kind of chocolate I don't like!:D I've recently cut all soda's from my diet, and after the initial "withdrawal" of horrible headaches- I feel good.

My goal for using this site is to get healthy. Yes, I want to lose weight, not just because I'll look better, but because I want to be healthy; because I want to feel better. I want to go into my 30's looking and feeling better than I ever have have in my 20's. I want to be healthy because heart disease and diabetes run in my family (my grandmother died from a heart attack at 54, it was her 3rd heart attack).

I've started working out before and lost a little weight then got lazy again, I love the graphs here and how visual it is- I believe that it will help keep me on track. I hope I can give you a positive update soon.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi from Cali

I am trying this site to see if it fits my needs. I'm Meri

I'm new to this site. It seems like a good way to keep track of my progress.

I'm 21. When I was younger, I used to be a pretty scrawny kid. Then puberty hit and it was like everything went haywire. I'm Mexican so it's probably the food and genetics - all the women in my family tend to be on the bigger side. But it was probably also my activity level. As a kid, I used to run around and do all those kid like things. Then I got a computer...the internet...so on and so forth, and I'm guessing that's why I started gaining more weight. I didn't get as much exercise as I used to.

I've always struggled with my weight. I will start diets/exercise plans and I'll be motivated for the first few months or so...and then when I hit a plateau I get discouraged and stop. I don't eat a lot...but what I do eat, it's generally not healthy, or I skip a lot of meals/forget to eat (I'm a journalist).

Anyways. I've decided this time, for real, I must make a change. My mom was recently diagnosed with diabetes and I don't want to be next. I want to be healthier and look good!

I'm currently 155 lbs. The most I've ever weighed in college was 160 lbs. The lowest...135 lbs. I tend to go up and down a lot. I'm not sure what a reasonable goal weight is for me - I'm 5'1" and my body is naturally on the curvy side. I just want to be fit and be able to wear the clothes I like.

Throughout the year my activity is moderate. I ride my bike or walk everywhere. I used to go to the gym 3-5 times a week last semester, unfortunately didn't do it during the summer (because my school charges for the summer session) or this semester (because I was too busy with work). It's kind of hard to go to the gym, too, as I'm far away from it - so I'm looking for ways I can still exercise that don't require going to the gym.

I'm hoping to find a support system and reasonable tips/advice here.

New member Cambria

Hi all,

My name is Cambria and to be quite blunt, I am tired of being unhealthy. I am 23 and in horrible shape. I work full time as well as go to school full time. Finding time to work out is difficult but I am determined that I am gonna stick with it and succeed. About 2 years ago when I first began my weight loss journey, I weighed 270. I was horrified. Me and my best friend kicked our own behinds working out. Most mornings it would be before 7 when we finished our workout for the day. I lost over 50 pounds. I was estatic. Not to even mention the fact that I felt AWESOME! Unfortunately thru a series of events I became discouraged and slowly gained all but 10 pounds of the weight back. My goal this year is to end the year under 200 pounds. It will be the first time in my adult life that I will have ever done this! I started today! I went and jogged and also cooked a super healthy dinner. I know it's silly but I ALREADY feel better. I just can't wait to utilize this web site and watch the pounds melt away.

First timer

Hi, my name is Shaliese Shyrigh. I am 5'2 so on a short person this is pretty chubby. I hope that through this forum I can get the support from people who are going through the same thing that I am. I could play any sport, and I always maintained under 10% body fat my entire high school career with relatively little muscle mass.

The reason I'm here is two fold. First, I've lost most athletic connections I had as I entered college, and now I want to get back on track and be the fit freak that I was. Second, I've always wanted to put on some real muscle mass. Now that I no longer play soccer, my calorie intake won't be completely consumed for cardio and I can add some real muscle. I hope I can stick with it. So far it's a great program. I have a similiar program as an App on my Iphone (Tap and Track).

50 yrs b-old and I let my body get way too soft; it's high time for me to chase the form I had when I was thirty years young. I was always very active: biking, running, paddle ball, etc. I'm now pursuing all these same activities again, although at a less aggressive pace.

Oh well, that's about it for now.

And the addage is quite true: Change your attitude and you can change your life. "Old" is a term applied to someone over 100.

Keep Going, a healthier future is waiting for you !!!

Hello from Mississippi

Hello everyone here! :) My name is Kayla and I am originally from Texas but now live in MS. I joined the site because I recently got out of the hospital for DVT and something called May-Thurners Syndrome. I was in the hospital for a month and a week and was absolutely miserable because I couldn't enjoy things I used to do. I still have a difficult time with working out but it gets better every day. I am hoping that this site helps keep me on track with my goals and reminds me to stay in good health. I have been given a second chance and I don't want to waste it. :)
-Kayla

Greetings from Tennessee

New here and looking to chat with motivated folks to keep me on the right path. I am new here, obviously. I am starting myself on a fitness regime because I am going to enter into the Navy. I am pretty optimistic about my ability to get fit, but of course there are those times. After meeting with a recruiter I found out that I need to drop close to 40 lbs and get my BMI under 31%. I currently am at 202 lbs and need to be at 160 (not ashamed to admit my weight) and my current BMI is 32.2%.

My fabulous coworker is helping me along and being my workout buddy and going to the gym with me and going on a short run with me. I used to be really fit in high school because I played soccer and softball but of course, life happens and I gained weight (2 kids and a husband happend actually, lol). But along with the running and the gym, I am also doing the program P90X that the hubby purchased to help me along. I have been at it for 3 days now and my muscles are sore so I am guessing that is a good thing, lol.

That is about it. I would love to keep you all posted on my progress, if the progress goes as expected (crossing fingers).

introduction

hi there. i love this site. i stumbled across this while searching for a way to track my progress. it's so thorough and its been really helpful. it takes awhile to input the stuff sometimes, but its worth it. anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Hi from Australia!

I've just started on this site and also have just joined a new gym, hopefully it suits me. It's a 24hr access gym which is great because with two young children and starting work at 7am the only time I can get to the gym is at 5am. With winter hitting here that's really hard, but so far I pretty much have a lovely new clean gym all to myself.

Hello Everyone

Hey everyone,

I am doing this in an effort to keep myself accountable. I have discovered that I really like swimming so that is my cardio of choice. I am at 218 pounds and my first goal weight is 180. According to the chart, I can do that in 100 days if I keep up my current pace. It's nice to see that in "writing" - it is so much more achievable that way.

Nice to "meet" all of you!

Hi from Cali

Needed a log as I am starting out new to this..and this looked user friendly and better than spark people.

goals are: tone and strength

lose 33 lbs.

fingers crossed this works..while doing the alternating days of workouts I am also doing the couch to 5k program and keeping the calories low.

chubby but determined..FINALLY!

:)
