I noticed when I put that I walked 1.5 miles, that it calculates fewer calories burned if I walk it in 20 minutes vs 30 minutes.  I'm sure its basing the calculation on time, not distance, but distance is probably more accurate, I would assume.
Thanks.  Its a great site.  So easy and helpful.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, calories burned are calculated based on duration of exercise. I believe this is more accurate since a mile hiked uphill would burn many more calories than a mile hiked downhill. Additionally, anyone can easily track the duration of their exercise, but distance requires a measuring device. That said, if you are interested in a more accurate calculation, you might consider adding your own custom exercises with different METs values (the multiplier for each exercise that is crucial to the calorie calculation, similar to intensity). For example, maybe add an 'Easy Hiking' and a 'Strenuous Hiking' exercise, the first with a METs value smaller than the default 'Hiking' and the second higher. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks,

Trevor Stith

Great.  Thanks for the idea.  Will work out the METS.
