Online Fitness Log Features
Tracking
The heart of Online Fitness Log is the ability to record your daily metrics, exercise sessions, and nutritional intake. Online Fitness Log makes it quick and easy to log all of this information in just a few minutes a day. Of course there are no set rules on how often you log your data. Some like to add to their log throughout each day while others will wait until the end of the week to enter all data. Online Fitness Log is flexible enough to allow you to choose how you want to use the application.
Calendar
Quickly see which days you’ve logged data with the graphical calendar view. Colorful icons represent different log entries for metrics, exercise, and nutrition. The icons are clickable to take you directly to that portion of your log entry for that day. Easily move throughout the calendar with simple navigation that allows you to jump between months or even years with just a click or two.
Metrics
Online Fitness Log defines metrics as basic health information that you will likely record on a daily basis such as heart rate, blood pressure, hours of sleep, body weight, body fat percentage, and more. Additionally, a large notes area is available to record any sort of data you can dream up. Logging metrics on a consistent basis will help you watch your weight changes, notice when you not quite rested enough for intense exercise, and aid in diagnosing your current health status.
Exercise
Online Fitness Log started as an exercise log only and while we have expanded into other fitness-related areas, the exercise tracker has expanded as well. Easily log multiple exercises per day and let Online Fitness Log calculate values such as average speed, pace and calories burned. There is no limit to the number of exercises you can record each day. Use the exercise tracker as you see fit.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
BMR is the amount of energy expended at rest sufficient only for the functioning of the vital organs. Online Fitness Log calculates your BMR using the Harris-Benedict equation which takes into account your gender, weight, height, and age. This number is then added to the number of calories burned during exercise to get a total number of calories burned per day.
Metabolic Equivalents (METs)
Online Fitness Log uses METs as a unit to gauge the intensity of aerobic exercise. A single MET is equivalent to the energy necessary simply to stay alive. Online Fitness Log assigns METs values to all exercises and allows you to do the same. This number is used along with your weight and the duration of the exercise to calculate number of calories burned during the exercise.
Calories
Online Fitness Log tallies both calories consumed from food and calories expended from BMR and exercise to present a positive or negative balance which translates to weight gain or loss. If you are performing an exercise on a machine that calculates calories, you will have the opportunity to input that information and override the automatic calculation performed by Online Fitness Log.
Nutrition
A healthy diet is an integral part of any fitness regimen so of course Online Fitness Log includes a comprehensive nutrition tracking feature. Choose from over 7000 foods already in our database or enter as many of your own as you like. All of the foods in our database and the foods you enter yourself are capable of holding all of the information currently on the United States Food and Drug Administration food label entitled Nutrition Facts.
Internationalization
Although Online Fitness Log is based in the United States, the application is designed to accommodate international users. Simply select which unit type you would like to use upon registration, United States or International, and your log will reflect the appropriate units.
Unit Converter
Use our simple unit converter conveniently located on the log entry page to transform any numerical data into units that are accepted by the application. Enter a single value, select a unit, and Online Fitness Log will return several values converted into appropriate units.
Customization
It’s quite difficult to build an application that meets everyone’s needs and wants. To that end, Online Fitness Log allows you to create your own fields to track any data that isn’t already built into the application. If you want to track data that doesn’t exist and can’t find a way to do it with custom fields, simply send us a quick note about what you want.
Custom Exercises
Add as many custom exercises as you like while supplying METs data so that the application can calculate calories. Don’t worry if you don’t know this information, just click the help icon and look at the METs values for existing exercises and choose one that feels similar in intensity. Custom exercises are also a good way to separate out different types of exercise such as with cycling – mountain biking, road biking, cyclocross, track, etc.
Custom Foods
There’s no way we could list all the foods available to a person to consume. Therefore, Online Fitness Log let’s users create their own foods. Each food can accommodate all of the information on a nutrition label including calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, potassium, carbohydrate, fiber, sugars, and protein.
Custom Lists
Custom Lists are applied to metrics, exercises, nutrition, or all. These custom fields allow you to record any information in list form. For example, they can be used for tracking location of exercises such as running in the park or at home on the treadmill. The lists are added directly to your log entry screen and can be typed into with the new values automatically added to the list without accessing another screen. Select ‘All’ as your list type and the custom list will be added to each log entry screen – metrics, exercise, and nutrition.
Reporting
What use is recording all this data if you can’t access it in a format that allows you to make intelligent decisions? Online Fitness Log offers extensive reporting capabilities with data grids that allow sorting and filtering on just about every field. Select your date range from a list of predefined ranges or enter your own start and end dates. Most reports also display a colorful chart to make it even easier to extrapolate your data.

The Online Fitness Log community is chock full of individuals like you who are seeking a lifestyle of health and fitness. Many will share the same goals and likewise encounter the same obstacles in reaching those goals. Many users of Online Fitness Log are athletes or fitness professionals who can provide information and support when asked.
